Tsilversmith ohis is a lovely silver thimble by HENRY GRIFFITH marked ELECTION on the rim.These thimbles marked election were made for the commemoration of the general election in 1929. 

The hallmarks are those of the Birmingham Assay Office and date stamped for 1931. It is believed that these 'Election' thimbles were retailed by A Witting of Hatton Garden in London and made by Henry Griffith, f Leamington Spa.The thimble is in good condition with no holes or dents. Marked ELECTION and full Birmingham hallmarks for 1931 initials A.W,the retailer of the thimbles and 16 the size of the thimble.A flower design completes this highly collectable silver election thimble. 

The 1929 UK GENERAL ELECTION WAS HELD ON THE 30 MAY 1929 WHICH ENDED IN A HUNG PARLIAMENT.It was the first of only three elections under universal sufferage in which a party lost the popular vote, meaning that they gained fewer popular votes than some other party but gained a plurality of seats. The Liberal party led by David Lloyd George held power.

 

The election was often called the flapper election it was the first election in which women under the age of 30 were allowed to vote.
